Front End Developer


Stitch Media is an interactive studio telling stories with new technology. We produce games, apps, websites, virtual reality & experiences for diverse audiences.

Our team works remotely across Ontario and can hire any candidate permanently based in Ontario. You may have to travel very occasionally to meet team members in person when it becomes safe to do so. For this reason we are seeking a candidate with the ability to work independently, solve problems, and schedule themselves with minimal supervision. The incumbent must be able to legally work in Ontario and must provide a link to their  portfolio.

Role Overview

Stitch Media is seeking a Front End Developer to work full-time developing our mobile and web applications. You will work remotely and use software tools for synchronous calls and asynchronous communication with our larger team. We welcome all diverse candidates in our team and will make accommodations for the right person.

Your projects this year will include a children’s entertainment app, a medical simulation website and an online escape room.

What You Need for this Position

  • HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, React, React Native
  • Node.js experience is a plus!
  • Understanding of the differences between desktop browsers and mobile web browsers
  • OOD principles as well as functional programming experience


  • Improve the quality of the existing UI and develop new user-facing features
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • Perform code reviews, unit testing, and system testing on your code to ensure all requirements have been addressed, all basic functionality works, and errors are handled properly


  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery and React
  • Good understanding of  advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as EmberJS or KnockoutJS
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Github


  • Working as part of a team to design architecture and Implement web user interfaces
  • Writing, documenting, design, testing and debugging code for new features
  • Identifying and troubleshooting software development issues
  • Using the latest tools and platforms to write, document and debug code for new features
  • Working within an Agile development environment

Education and Work Experience

  • 3 - 5 years of JavaScript development experience, React, React Native
  • User-interface design experience is an asset
  • Expert ability to quickly code from wireframes
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with designers to produce ideas and prototypes, while actively contributing to UX discussion
  • least 2 years commercial experience on advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks
